Dear Editor,
I would like to bring to the country?s attention the rise in violence that has occurred. We can no longer sit it ignorant bliss and ignore this issue.
It was just last week where I myself witnessed a violent act against one of our revered persons in society. I cannot believe this is what our communities have to come to. It was not long ago that we lived in a peaceful community.
What has changed since then? Why have we turned on our fellow citizens? Did we not live in peace with the Rastafarians? Are they not the same people that we once went to school with, spoke with and had as neighbours? It is rather sad that we have turned to such stereotyping because of a description given to us by the police. The rapist was said to be ?bearded? and because if that we assume that it was a Rastafarian because they have a beard.
I would like to bring it to the attention of persons that because a man has a beard does not mean that he is a Rasta. I am very disappointed at the behaviour exhibited against persons in the Rastafarian community especially ?Brother Man?. Have we really lost our gratitude have we turned so quickly on the man who performed miracles and healed the sick. If so then why? Brother Man has done nothing but help us and all we do is beat him, kick him, and scorn him because he is one of the ?bearded men". That is why we beat him because he has a beard. If for some reason this sounds like an absurd reason that is because it is. We cannot help but to compare his situation to that of Jesus? own. He was beaten and crucified by the same people who he healed and whose life he made better. It is my belief that we need to stand up and change our ways.

                                                                                 Yours sincerely,
