Paul's connection



Question: Critically analyse Paul?s relationship with women pointing out why one or the other succeeds where as another failed. 

In the fiction, Sons and Lovers by D.H. Lawrence Paul, the third child and second boy experiences peculiar relationships. His problems arise with his relationships with females that are not relatives. Paul?s relationship with women include: the one he has with his mother, his sister, Miriam and Clara. Throughout the book Paul is seen trying to balance the women in his life since he seems unable to deal with more than one female who is not his relative at the same time. His incapability leads to the analysis of his relationship with women and pointing out why one or the other succeeds where another one fails. 
Mrs. Morel and her son have a strange relationship. In the beginning he displays symptoms of the Oedipus complex. William displayed slight symptoms but quickly got over it unlike his brother. The relationship that William had with his mother was similar to that of Paul?s though Paul?s was more intense. . Mrs. Morel becomes fiercely protective of her son especially after William?s experience with his fianc
